Rezumat / Summary: The theme of alcohol in William Shakespeare’s work, with its numerous ramifications, deserves a much more complex study than the present one. Nevertheless, since in our case Shakespeare is part of a more general research, in relation to the universal theatre, we limit ourselves just at indicating certain fragments that we consider of greater importance. Put together, the acting under the influence of alcohol practiced by Shakespeare reveals itself to us in all its greatness. Sometimes it presents itself as a source of comic, other times as a trigger for tragedy, in other instances as an ingredient for poetic descriptions or as an instrument in the panoply of weapons, like that of a certain intriguing character like Lady Macbeth or Iago. Alcohol is omnipresent, nurturing with the essences some of the most diverse texts written during the entire literary activity of the writer from Stratford-upon-Avon.
