Rezumat / Summary: Originally from Trebizond, the first representatives of the Ipsilanti family appointed to public offices in Moldavia were Constantin and his son Enache, who accompanied the suite of Mihai Racoviţă at the beginning of his third reign. The present article is in fact an analysis in terms of genealogy and prosopography of the two figures who lived and worked near the rulers in Iași and Bucharest during the first half of the 18th century. The rulers of the two principalities, according to their necessities, took advantage of their qualities and put them in charge of certain diplomatic and military missions. The privileges enjoyed by the two brought about divergent responses in the society at the time, attitudes found in the writings of the chroniclers: the Greek ones, such as Nicolai Chiparissa or the author of The Chronicle of the Ghiculești Family, praising their abilities as diplomats and military strategists, and the Moldavian ones, such as Ion Neculce, naming them, most often, as scheming, cowards and immoral.
