Rezumat / Summary: The present study focuses on the projections of the city of Iași and its people as they are presented in the works of Alecu Russo, Mihail Kogălniceanu, Vasile Alecsandri, Costache Negruzzi, Dimitrie Ralet, Cezar Petrescu, Gala Galaction, G. Călinescu, Ion Minulescu, Nicolae I. Popa, Ionel Teodoreanu and Petru Comarnescu in an attempt of a literary (self)imagology. It is presented as a patriarchal space, divided between oriental logic and semi-European mentality, revealing, one by one “the law of minimum effort”, the (non)centre complex next to the superiority one, the pride of the past, the lack of the will to live, critical spirit and the vocation of friendship etc., giving birth to a game of images and counter-images well preserved in an oxymoronic relation. The writers seek to underline the effects there representations have on the collective imaginary, a certain social, cultural or communicational context, pointing out certain national cultural stereotypes in various ways – ludic, objective, parodic, severe, acid, comic, ironic etc.
